Graece ψάλια, apud Strabonem, l. 4. Τέλη δὲ οὔπως ὐπομένουσι βαρέα τȏυ τε ἐξαγομένων ἐις τὴν Κελτικὴν εντεῦθεν καὶ τȏυ ἐισαγομένων ενθένδε: τᾶτα δέ ἐςτιν ἐλεφάντινα ψάλια καὶ περιαυχενίαι καὶ λογγούρια, καὶ ὑαλᾶ σκεύη, καὶ ἄλλος ῥῶπος τοιοῦτος, Vectigalia autem gravia rerum exportandarum in Galliam, vel inde importandarum non sustinent. Sunt autem ista eburnea Psalia et torques et vitrea pocula et aliae huiusmodi mictiles ac minutae merces: sunt ornamenta equorum, viriolae seu frena. Uti enim merces Britanniae, de hac enim loquitur Geographus, quae exportabantur, erant pelles, canes venatici, aurum, argentum et ferrum : sic quae importabantur, erant ἐλέφάντινα ψάλια etc. Distinguunt quidem vulgo Grammatici, inter ψάλια et ψέλια; ut ψάλιον de freno equi dicatur, ψέλιον de viriola. Sed Auctores haec discrimina non raro insuper habent. Hesychius, ψάλια, κρίκοι, δακτύλιοι, In Epigrammate Graeco,

frenans equum etc.
Latini viriolas vocant. Glossae Viriola, κλανίον, ψέλιον, περιχέριον. Sunt autem viriolae κρίκοι, i. e. circelli, ex ebore plerumque fieri soliti. Salmas. ad Solin. p. 245. Vide quoqueinfra, in voce Psellia.
